The Wheels of Dreams has been visited by more than
8,000 students since February 2003. The students have learned entrepreneurial
skills, career and job assessment, computer skills, money management
skills and healthy lifestyle tips. The Wheels of Dreams is the great
success due to the strategic partnership, grants and donations from
corporate, business, foundation, non-profit and individual donor
support showing their ongoing commitment to providing value and
success of the program.
The Wheels of Dreams joins its Partners to provide
ongoing value and success of the program for students in a number
of vital ways:
- Provides free relevant and individual entrepreneurial awareness
and training for high school, middle school, in-school and after-school,
inner-city and suburban students.
- Students learn positive life character skills real life business
skills to be successful owners, managers and employees future entrepreneurial
endeavors.
- BMOA members serving as entrepreneur mentors visit the bus to share
their personal business stories, instill positive aspirations to the
students as well as offer motivational tips for success.
- Develop excellent life skills, PC skills, money management and
banking skills.
- Receive orientation that helps to identify their goals and focus
on their career endeavor.
- Students are taught via modules and reinforced by an Entrepreneur
Educator on Professional Etiquette: How to find a job, workplace skills
and job readiness. They are also taught Money Management: Wealth Building,
Debt Avoidance and credit management.
- Urban, at-risk, disadvantaged high school students who do not have
on-going access to computers are excited about utilizing the tutorial
to learn basic and advanced computer and business building skills.
All program content is self-contained on the Wheels bus to avoid students
accessing inappropriate Internet websites.
- Students are excited about learning how to successfully find a
job and keep a job. They are extremely interested in how to prepare
resumes and how to effectively interview for a job.
- Students learn healthy lifestyle habits that include healthy eating
and exercise tips.
- Students learn how to operate a computer based cash register system
and the basics of customer service and hospitality.
The Atlanta Public Schools with its focus on Student
Success joins in this strategic partnership under its Technology and Career
Education Department. The Atlanta Public Schools has made an on-going
commitment to the Wheels of Dreams program. Daniel K. (Danny) Smith, Ph.D.
Director of Atlanta Public Schools Technology/Career Education Department
leads the partnership with the Focus on Student Success. Dr. Smith provided
program content design and approval as he provided leadership of the education
administration, teachers, students, parents, community and business leaders
Wheels of Dreams Advisory committee. The Wheels of Dreams program is a WSB-TV (ABC Network
Affiliate) Family 2 Family Media Partner. The Wheels of Dreams and Partners,
Sponsors and Donors have been featured on WSB-TV Family 2 Family Television
programs, WSB-TV Public Service Announcements, printed flyers in 400 Georgia
WSB-TV Family 2 Family community and business locations, Atlanta Area
McDonald's restaurants, event posters, event flyers, video presentations,
the Wheels of Dreams website and Wheels of Dreams Golf Classic promotional
materials.
